Blue light and UV protection

BLUE LIGHT AND UV-BLOCKING GLASSES

Our blue light and UV filter glasses are meticulously crafted to safeguard your eyes from the potential harm caused by these light sources. Our lenses function as a formidable defense, effectively repelling a significant amount of harmful blue light and ensuring complete protection for your eyes. Before delving into the features of our glasses, it's crucial to understand the nature of the light we are addressing.

VISIBLE LIGHT

The electromagnetic spectrum is created when a beam of white light from the sun is passed through a prism.

This breaks the light down into different colours, each corresponding to different frequencies of light.
The "visible spectrum" includes violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, which are the colours visible to the human eye. However, there are other non-visible colours beyond these. At higher frequencies, above violet, we find ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays.

Beyond the lower frequencies of red light, we enter the realm of infra-red and the vast spectral region of radio waves.

Therefore, visible light represents only a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, despite its ability to stimulate the visual organ.

WHAT IS BLUE LIGHT?

"Blue rays" or "blue light" refer to light rays that are not visible to the naked eye and have a very high frequency.

Blue light is a type of electromagnetic radiation within the visible spectrum and has a short wavelength, ranging from 380 nm to 500 nm. It can have both harmful effects on the human eye and positive effects on health. When the radiation exceeds 460 nanometres, it is considered "good blue light". However, below this length, it is considered "bad"..

The so-called "good blue light" plays a crucial role in regulating the biological clock and influences cognitive functions, memory, sleep, and attention by acting on the retina.

HARMFUL BLUE LIGHT

Blue light can pose a significant risk to the human eye when its wavelength falls below 460 nm.

This type of light is not naturally occurring and is emitted by electronic and digital LCD and LED devices, including displays, TVs, tablets, computers, and smartphones, as well as indoor lighting fixtures that we use in our daily lives for work and leisure.

Excessive use of these digital devices can lead to a decrease in heart rate, resulting in eye strain, headaches, and fatigue. In addition, blue light can cause dry eyes, blurred or double vision, neck and shoulder pain, sensitivity to light, and also affect the circadian cycle, leading to sleep disorders.

LET'S PROTECT OUR EYES

The time people spend in front of digital devices is increasing. Just think, 30% of people use computers, tablets, and smartphones for about six hours a day, and 14% for as long as 10 hours.

Overexposure to this type of light can cause minor damage such as:

  • Insomnia
  • Irritability
  • Decreased attention spans

or more serious damage such as:

  • Tearing problems
  • Photophobia, burning, eye irritation
  • Chronic or recurrent conjunctivitis
  • Early and senile cataracts
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

UV RAYS

Ultraviolet radiation, which is emitted by the sun and artificial sources like tanning beds and sun lamps, is invisible to the human eye but can cause significant damage to the eyes and skin.

Exposure to UV radiation can lead to various eye diseases and disorders, including:

  • Basal cell carcinoma (eyelids)
  • Photokeratitis
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Early senile cataracts

SEEKING PROFESSIONAL ADVICE FROM AN OPTICIAN IS CRUCIAL

Unfortunately, many individuals do not prioritise the well-being of their eyes. A mere 10% of people opt for glasses to protect and prevent eye problems.

Only 80% of individuals are aware of the potential risks posed by UV rays to their eyesight, while very few understand the specific dangers and the link to degenerative diseases in later life as a result of childhood damage.

Additionally, there is a lack of awareness regarding the potential issues related to exposure to blue light.
